Did you know that 39.2% of people made their New Year’s Resolution to get healthier, be more active and improve their overall lifestyle in 2018? Improving one’s health is one of the top resolutions made each year. Setting a resolution may sound cheesy, but it can help you stick to your goals and improve your life. No matter what your resolution might be, staying active is important for everyone all year round!
Here at Sky Fitness we encourage our members to engage in a healthy lifestyle and offer a vast range of classes and events to help everyone stick to their fitness goals and keep them moving. That is why we are so excited to host our first ever indoor triathlon on March, 4 2018!
What is an indoor triathlon? A triathlon consists of three physical activities: swimming, biking and running. An indoor triathlon is based on time rather than distance. Participants in the 60 minute Sky Tri will swim for 10 minutes, bike for 30 minutes and run for 20 minutes. Points are given for going further in a specific period of time, not for going faster over a fixed distance.
You may be thinking that it sounds a bit scary to participate in something like a triathlon, but it is more about the journey and improving yourself rather than winning. When you and your family (yes our triathlon is kid-friendly) choose to train and participate in the Sky Tri you are committing to bettering yourselves as athletes and proving to that you CAN do anything you set your mind to. Clearly there are many benefits to training and participating in a triathlon, including overall improved health and more energy!
Still not convinced? Here are some more reasons why your body will enjoy partaking in a triathlon:
- Whole Body Workout – Swimming works your upper body while both running and cycling strengthen your lower body. You are also strengthening your heart with 60 straight minutes of cardio.
- Confidence Boost – It is no secret that completing a triathlon is pretty impressive. Not only will you have something to humbly brag about (you worked hard for it, go on and show the world you did it), you will also have a newfound sense of confidence in yourself for doing something you didn’t think you could.
- Reducing Risk of Injury – Many of us like to stick to what we are good at. Whether it be playing golf or practicing yoga. While this is great, the same muscles are being worked out each time. Training and participating in a triathlon allows us to work on each muscle group, thus, making them stronger and preventing risk of an injury later on down the road.
